String Students

All students who play orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass) will receive daily instruction from respected faculty clinicians, study instrumental techniques, and play in orchestra.

Junior Strings • July 7-14
Students entering grades 6 & 7 with at least three years of experience will be admitted to the new Junior Strings division. (Students who have completed ISE, SOE, and CSO would be a good fit for this program.)

Sample Junior Strings weekday schedule:

  • 1:00 pm – Check-in, set-up, tune
  • 1:15 to 2:45 pm – Junior String Orchestra rehearsal
  • 3:00 to 4:00 pm – Sectionals
  • 4:10 to 4:50 pm – Musicianship Class: Creative Jam Skills*
  • 5:00 pm – Parent pickup

* Venturing beyond the traditional classical repertoire, this hands-on learning class will explore musicianship skills that students can use to spontaneously contribute to any environment without sheet music. Taught by Duane Padilla.

Core Strings Program • July 6-15
Students entering grades 8-12 (and graduating seniors) will be placed in the Core Strings division. These students will play in both String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra, and their day is slightly longer.

Sample Core Strings weekday schedule:

  • 1:00 pm – Check-in, set-up, tune
  • 1:10 to 2:30 pm – String Sectionals
  • 2:40 to 4:00 pm – Symphony Orchestra Rehearsal
  • 4:15 to 5:30 pm – String Orchestra Rehearsal
  • 5:40 pm – Parent pickup
