New for 2018

New for 2018!

This summer, PMI will see the launch of new opportunities, inspired by our Board of Directors’ vision of “making music a right, not a privilege,” for Hawaii’s youth.

Strings: We will be accepting string students as young as rising 6th graders to a new Junior Strings Program, and also have added on a new Solo & String Quartet (SSQ) program.

We’re especially excited for the SSQ program and the doors it can open for younger string players; if your child hasn’t played in a quartet before, but has always wanted to know what it’s about, the SSQ Program is the opportunity to give it a try! High school students and more-experienced quartet players will love the world-class, Mainland faculty we’re bringing to Hawaii—what a thrill!

The SSQ will start on its own, Sunday, July 1; link up with the PMI Core program on July 6; and everything will finish together on Sunday, July 15. Tuition for the SSQ will cover the entire program. Learn more about SSQ and its Program Director, Iggy Jang.

Jazz: HYS is kicking-off its brand-new Combo Program at PMI! Aimed at students who play non-classical styles/instruments, The Combo will provide the nucleus for the PMI Jazz Big Band. Students not enrolled in The Combo are still encouraged to signup for Big Band. Learn more about the Combo Program, and its Program Director, Dean Taba.
